Following up on the implementation of digital transformation plans, the expansion of electronic payment services, and reviewing growth indicators, the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, H.E. Naji Mohammed Issa, held, an extensive meeting on Tuesday 2026\/03\/03. The meeting included General Managers of banks (Al-Jumhuriya, Al-Sahari, Al-Wahda, North Africa, and National Commercial) and directors of electronic payment companies, with the attendance of the Central Bank\u2019s relevant department heads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting reviewed key performance indicators over the recent period, which showed remarkable progress and record growth in the volume of electronic transactions. The number of issued POS terminals increased within just two months, from 1\/1\/2026 to 28\/2\/2026, reaching 170,149 points of sale. The number of activated cards reached 5,531,507, while the number of card transactions at ATMs totaled 4,047,780, with a total transaction volume of 2,235,176,369 Libyan Dinars during the period. Transactions at POS terminals reached 91,931,265, with a total transaction volume of 11,735,207,353 Libyan Dinars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The number of subscribers to banking application services across the banks reached 4,300,280, with a total of 43,304,277 transactions through electronic applications and a total financial value via mobile applications of 47,899,278,948.530 Libyan Dinars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The period also witnessed significant expansion in instant payment services (LYPay) and (OnePay), which reached 44,638,566,521 Libyan Dinars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additionally, the number of e-wallets reached 187,335, with 6,096 e-wallet acceptance points. Transactions conducted through e-wallets totaled 89,808, with an overall transaction volume of 8,211,379 Libyan Dinars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Growth rates in the number of POS devices, the volume of electronic transactions, and citizen and private sector engagement were also analyzed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In conclusion, the Governor emphasized the importance of facilitating procedures for citizens and companies to access electronic banking services and improving performance periodically to meet growing demand. He commended the efforts and initiatives that contributed to enhancing financial inclusion by strengthening the readiness of the technical infrastructure supporting the electronic payment system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
