Mr. Naji Mohamed Issa, Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, and his accompanying delegation, held a meeting on Tuesday ,April 14, 2029, in Washington, D.C., with Mr. Brian Patterson, Deputy General Counsel for Legal Affairs at the International Monetary Fund, in the presence of representatives from the Fund\u2019s Legal Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting was dedicated to exploring ways to enhance technical and legal cooperation between the Central Bank and the Fund. the discussions focused on the legislative and legal frameworks that the Central Bank intends to introduce, most notably:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2013 A draft law on Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism, in line with the highest international standards issued by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
\u2013 The update of Banking Law No. (1) of 2005, as amended by Law No. (46) of 2012, to align with modern governance and banking supervision requirements.
\u2013 The update of the licensing regulation for electronic payment companies, in line with digital transformation and aimed at enhancing financial inclusion while adhering to cybersecurity standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed that the International Monetary Fund will provide specialized technical support to the technical and legal teams formed by the Central Bank of Libya, with the objective of preparing initial drafts of these laws and regulations.
