Governor of the Central Bank of Libya Meets with the General Manager of the Libyan Foreign Bank

As part of Governor’s ongoing efforts to monitor the banking sector during the current security tensions in, Tripoli, H.E. Mr. Naji Mohammed Issa Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, held a meeting with the General Manager of the Libyan Foreign Bank to review the Bank’s situation and assess the impact of the prevailing conditions on Wednesday, 21 May 2025.

The General Manager confirmed that operations have continued normally, thanks to the activation of the Bank’s Business Continuity Plan, under which all banking activities were conducted remotely this included the renewal of time deposits, communication with correspondent banks, execution of letters of credit, monitoring of transfers, and account settlements. He also noted that the Bank’s headquarters sustained minor damage, which was reported to the relevant authorities, and that a gradual return to the premises is already underway.

The General Manager extended his appreciation to the staff of the Libyan Foreign Bank, and expressed gratitude to the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, the Board of Directors, and their team for their support to the banking sector, as well as to all judicial and oversight bodies.

The Governor commended the efforts made by the Libyan Foreign Bank and all commercial banks, emphasizing the importance of adhering to Business Continuity Plans in line with international best practices. He underlined the need to comply with the directives and circulars issued by the Central Bank to ensure the safety and stability of banking operations. The Governor also highlighted the unique role of the Libyan Foreign Bank in supporting the national financial system and affirmed that the Central Bank remains committed to providing the necessary support to enhance the performance and efficiency of banking sector in a manner that serves the public interest and ensures the sustainability of financial services.
