Governor meets with the Federation of Industry and a number of suppliers
Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, H.E. Naji Mohammed Issa, held a meeting with the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Federation of Industry, in the presence of a number of department directors at the Central Bank of Libya and a group of suppliers, to discuss and address the challenges related to the importation of essential food commodities ahead of the holy month of Ramadan on Sunday, 15/02/2026. This is aimed at positively impacting the prices of these goods and their supply system in the coming months, in line with their cost and ensuring affordability for citizens amid the current shortage.
During the meeting, it was urgently agreed that suppliers will import 2.5 million boxes of cooking oil to be made available during this week and the next. In addition, letters of credit have been opened for cooking oil valued at USD 100 million, equivalent to 6 million boxes, along with facilitating all procedures related to the import of essential commodities to compensate for the existing shortage in the market. It was also agreed to hold periodic meetings to monitor market conditions and ensure the regular flow of goods.
