Governor of the Central Bank of Libya Participates in the MENAP Regional Governors Meeting
Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Mr. Naji Mohammed Issa—accompanied by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance and their delegation participated on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, in the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan (MENAP) regional meeting. The session was held on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand, with the attendance of Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the IMF, her deputy, senior IMF officials, as well as central bank governors and finance ministers from member states.
The meeting examined key macroeconomic and financial developments facing the region, notably price volatility, persistent inflationary pressures, and growing constraints on monetary policy driven by fiscal dominance—challenges that undermine the operational independence of central banks and restrict their ability to achieve core policy mandates.
Participants emphasized the vital importance of maintaining fiscal and monetary sustainability, enhancing coordination and synergy between fiscal and monetary policies, and safeguarding central bank independence while advancing policy toolkits to better absorb escalating economic shocks and pressures.
Furthermore, attendees highlighted the imperative of adapting to rapid technological transformations, particularly the rise of artificial intelligence. They stressed the need for closer regional cooperation and integration to mitigate emerging risks, foremost among them cybersecurity threats, ensuring the resilience and stability of financial and banking systems.
