Governor of the Central Bank of Libya chairs the second regular meeting of the National Committee for Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing
On August 4, 2025, the second regular meeting of the National Committee for Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing was held at the headquarters of the Central Bank of Libya in Tripoli. The meeting was chaired by H.E. Mr. Naji Mohammed Issa, Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, and Chairman of the Committee, and attended by representatives of various relevant national entities and institutions.
The meeting reviewed Libya’s ongoing efforts to prepare for the mutual evaluation process by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and discussed the serious risks facing the country’s financial system due to the absence of a comprehensive legislative framework that aligns with international standards and requirements in the field of combating money laundering and terrorism financing.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed reports issued by several counterpart international institutions concerning money laundering and terrorism financing activities linked to the Libyan state.
The discussion also covered the work of the subcommittee responsible for following up on the implementation of the National Strategy for Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing, identifying key challenges and obstacles, and outlining the necessary practical steps to ensure the successful achievement of the strategic objectives.
