Governor of the Central Bank of Libya met with the President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank

H.E Mr. Saddek Omar ElKaber, the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya met with, Mr. Jin Liqun, President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in USA Washington on Friday,19th of April 2024. During the meeting, Mr. Jin expressed his satisfaction with Libya’s participation as a shareholder in the bank through the Central Bank of Libya. The AIIB is prepared to study funding for strategic projects and provide expertise and consultations for reconstruction projects in affected areas, economic diversification, technical support, and training. It is worth noting that the AIIB specializes in financing strategic infrastructure projects for member countries. Libya completed its membership and contributed to the bank’s capital in September 2023.

During the meeting, JP Morgan Bank praised the continuous and noticeable progress in the performance of the Central Bank of Libya despite the challenges. The bank expressed ongoing support across various investment areas, financial consultations, technical expertise, and human capacity building.

Governor of the Central Bank of Libya met with the US Deputy Secretary of State and the US Special Envoy to Libya

H.E Mr. Saddek Omar ElKaber, the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya met with Mr. Joshua Harris, Deputy Secretary of State, and Mr. Richard Norland, U.S. Special Envoy to Libya, in USA Washington, on Thursday,18th of April 2024, during the meeting they discussed enhancing cooperation and coordination between the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Embassy, and the Central Bank of Libya. They also addressed supporting transparent, unified, and effective management of oil and public resources, as well as the Central Bank’s efforts in unification and maintaining the financial sustainability of the state. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of an independent and effective monetary policy that supports exchange rates and continued support for the capacities of the Central Bank of Libya’s administrations through development programs provided by the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Governor of the Central Bank of Libya met with Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury and the US Special Envoy to Libya.

H.E Mr. Saddek Omar ElKaber, the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya met with Eric Meyer, Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Treasury, and Mr. Richard Norland, U.S. Special Envoy to Libya, and several officials from the U.S. Treasury Department in USA Washington, on Thursday,18th of April 2024, the meeting addressed commending the efforts of the Central Bank in maintaining Libya’s financial sustainability, progress in anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism measures, developments in the Libyan economic and political situation, coordination with the Financial Committee of the House of Representatives to approve a unified budget for the Libyan state, and support for the National Oil Corporation to maintain and increase oil production rates. It is essential to intensify efforts to combat corruption, money laundering, and terrorist financing, in addition to supporting the Central Bank of Libya’s efforts to enhance disclosure, transparency, and regular reporting. The mechanism for collecting and disbursing oil revenues and disclosing them is crucial. The pivotal role of the Central Bank in coordinating with relevant entities ensures the continuity of the state’s lifeline and sustainability.

This meeting is an extension of consultative meetings with the French Central Bank, with the most recent one having taken place in March.
