Governor of the Central Bank of Libya met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey

H.E. Mr. Saddek Omar ElKaber, Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, met with Mr. Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, on Wednesday, 31st of July 2024, in Ankara, Turkey. They addressed several topics including mutual interest, supported the Central Bank’s efforts towards unification, maintaining the state’s financial sustainability, agreeing on unified and rationalized public spending, and the Central Bank’s and other institutions’ efforts in unifying and stabilizing Libya.

Governor of the Central Bank of Libya met with the Ambassador of Türkiye to Libya

On Monday, 29th, July 2024, H.E. Mr. Saddek Omar ElKaber, Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, met with Mr. Kovan Begic, the newly appointed Ambassador of Turkey to Libya. During their meeting, they discussed important topics including the unification of the Central Bank of Libya, the consolidated budget, and initiatives to support the Central Bank’s efforts in maintaining Libya’s financial sustainability. Governor ElKaber also wished the Ambassador success in his new role.

Governor of the Central Bank of Libya met with the Ambassador of Italy to Libya

During their meeting on 29th, July 2024, H.E Mr. Saddek Omar ElKaber, Governor of the Central Bank of Libya and the Ambassador of Italy to Libya Mr. Gianluca Alberini, covered several important topics. They explored potential cooperation between Libya and Italy in banking, strategies to combat AML/CFT and the associated risks. Additionally, they discussed leveraging the expertise of Italy in capacity building, in collaboration with the Central Bank of Italy.

The latest developments on the reunification of the central bank, enhancing banking services and electronic payment systems, steps taken to adopt the unified budget for 2024 and laws related to the banking sector, coordination with state institutions, proposals for reforming fuel subsidies and the issue of oil bartering were the key topics discussed during the meeting between H.E Mr. Aqila Saleh Qweider, Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives(HoR) and H.E Mr. Saddek Omar ElKaber, Governor of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL), along with Mr. Maree Al-Barasi, Deputy Governor and their accompanying team on Saturday, 6th of July 2024, in Cairo. Mr. Saleh, the Speaker of HoR, expressed his gratitude for the role played by the CBL in preserving the country’s reserves and financial sustainability. He also emphasized the HoR’s support for continuing these efforts and the importance of ongoing communication with the leadership of the HoR.

Governor of the Central Bank of Libya met virtually with the Director General Chairman of the Board of the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF)

H.E Mr. Saddek Omar ElKaber, the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, held a virtual meeting with Dr. Fahad bin Mohammed Alturki, the Director General Chairman of the Board of the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF). During the meeting, they addressed the AMF’s strategy to work in accordance with the economic developments in the Arab region, enhancing the Fund’s role in supporting economic stability in the region, and addressing the needs of member countries across various areas.

Governor of the Central Bank of Libya met with the Chairman and the General Manager of the Libyan Foreign Bank

H.E Mr. Saddek Omar ElKaber, the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, met with the Chairman and the General Manager of the Libyan Foreign Bank on Tuesday, 14th of May 2024. In attendance of the Director of Banking and Supervision Department. During the meeting, they reviewed the bank’s external contributions, finalized the year-end accounts for the bank up to 2023, and discussed procedures related to external guarantees and bond portfolios.

H.E Mr. Saddek Omar ElKaber, the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, met with Dr. Omar Al-Obaidi, the Second Deputy Chairman of the High Council of State, along with members of the Economic Committee of the Council. During the meeting, they emphasized joint efforts between the High Council of State and the (CBL) to enhance the country’s financial sustainability. Transparency regarding the state’s financial resources and disclosure of such resources were also highlighted. Furthermore, they discussed the need to intensify efforts to achieve an inclusive economic vision that aligns with the state’s monetary policy and capabilities. Additionally, they addressed the issue of medical treatment abroad, focusing on implementing mechanisms to combat corruption in this area while ensuring access to medical services for eligible patients. The ongoing efforts to localize medical treatment within the country were also emphasized.
