The Governor meets with the Delegation of The European Union and the French Ambassador

Mr.Saddek Omar El-Kaber , Governor of The Central Bank of Libya , held a meeting at his office in Tripoli on Wednesday the 4th of October 2017 with Mr. Johannes Hahn , commissioner of the European neighborhood policy (ENP), Mrs.Bettina Muscheidt , Head of the European Delegation to Libya and the accompanying delegation of the mission .They reviewed the efforts of the Central Bank of Libya to support the stability in Libya , besides discussing the financial and economic crisis experienced by the country.

At the end of the visit the members of the delegation assured the support of the European Union for the efforts of the Central Bank , particularly concerning the independence and impartiality of the Central Bank and it’s role in combating money laundering and terrorist financing offences.

 

The Central Bank of Libya participated in meetings of the governors of the Central Banks of the member states organization of the Islamic conference OIC

Mr.Saddek Omar Elkaber , Governor of the Central Bank of Libya participated in the meetings of the governors of the Central Banks of the member states organization of the Islamic conference which was held in Turkey during the period 21-22 of September that aimed to strengthen the relation between member states and to work to exchange experiences and establish better mechanisms for cooperation among member states in various fields related to the competence of Central Banks and monetary institutions in order to support the economic and financial stability of member states , particularly in the technical development and electronic systems and upgrading work of Islamic finance mechanisms among member states in accordance to the best experiences of member states.

Nearly thirty countries participated in these meetings and were attended by a number of international institutions led by the international monetary fund ,besides a number of international experts who participated in enriching the discussions and presenting a range of experiences and ideas , the following meetings and workshops made a number of recommendations emphasizing the need to strengthen cooperation among member states and that the convening of this meeting should be regular and continuous , in addition to the formation of joint technical task forces to prepare scientific studies that contribute to the adoption of appropriate decisions.

Governor of the Central Bank of Libya meets the British ambassador

Mr.Saddek Omar Elkaber , Governor of the Central Bank of Libya meets Mr.Peter Millett ,the British ambassador to Libya at his office on the 11th of September 2017.

A number of economic and financial problems facing the country were discussed during the meeting besides the efforts to solve them and overcome the current financial and economic crisis.

The National committee for combating money laundering and terrorism financing held it’s second meeting

The national committee for combating money laundering and terrorism financing , held it’s second meeting for 2017 on Wednesday the sixth of September at the Central Bank of Libya in Tripoli.

The committee discussed a range of issues related to combating money laundering and terrorism financing and the first to be viewed during the meeting was the result of the FATF questionnaire , determining the amounts to be disclosed when entering or leaving Libya and the implementation of security council resolutions concerning Libya in particular and the requirements of the Libyan state to referendum international standards to combat money laundering and terrorism financing .

At the end of the meeting , the committee came up with a number of resolutions , recommendations and strategies and confirmed them for the of putting an end to the problems related to money laundering and terrorism financing crimes and referendum the requirements of international standards to combat money laundering and terrorism financing in order to prevent Libya from entering the Embargo list.

 

More than one Billion Dollars is The Amount of Total Foreign Currency sold to Head of Households until now

According to the efforts done to alleviate the demand for foreign currency based on the statement published by The Central Bank of Libya concerning the sale of foreign currency to citizens through commercial banks by the official rate of the day as 400 US$ is the FX amount for each member . In implementation of the direct instructions of the Central Bank to the commercial banks and their branches to proceed with the implementation of the statement, The Central Bank continues depositing funds to all banks that began accepting requests from head of Households, through the  foreign exchange system for individuals launched by the Central Bank of Libya starting from the 12th of February 2017. The following is a table showing : Number of transactions , Amount in Dollars and the amount in Libyan Dinars in each bank until the 28th of August 2017 , The Amount of Total Foreign Currency sold to Head of Households until now Reserved amounts of foreign currency for all banks that have worked on the system

Governor of the Central Bank of Libya meets head of the delegation European union to Libya

Mr.Saddek Omar Elkaber ,Governor of the Central Bank of Libya meets the ambassador , Bettina Muscheidt , head of the delegation European union to Libya on Thursday the 24th of August 2017 at his office in Tripoli. They exchanged views during the meeting on various issues related to the current economic conditions in the country and the role of the European union in helping to overcome some economic problems.

The Governor meets officials of the (( GECOL ))

Mr.Saddek Omar Elkaber , Governor of the Central Bank of Libya held a meeting on Wednesday the 23rd of August 2017 at his office in Tripoli with Mr.Salem Gnan , member of parliament , Eng.Ali Sasi , Director of the general  electricity company , Mr.Abdulmajeed Hamza , Head of the board of directors of the general  electricity company , Mr.Abdul aziz Benour , head of credit department in the company and Mr.Milad Hweji , deputy director of banking operations department of the Central Bank of Libya .

The meeting addressed ways to overcome the difficulties facing the general electricity company and ways to solve them to enable it to provide better services.

The Governor meets the united nations support mission in Libya

Mr.Saddek Omar Elkaber , Governor of the Central Bank of Libya meets with Mr.Gassan Salame , representative of the secretary of the united nations and head of the united nations support mission in Libya on  Wednesday the 23rd of August 2017 at his office in Tripoli .

They exchanged views during the meeting and consultations on the current conditions of the country besides trying to find solutions for the problems Libya is going through.

This meeting which was attended by Mr.Ajani Bathil , assistant of representative of secretary of the united nations and Mr. Anwar Derkzli , political affairs consultant of the UNSMIL , was the first meeting between the Governor and the representative of the secretary of the united nations .

   

The presidential council and the Central Bank both agree on supporting the national oil corporation

On Monday the 7th of August 2017 , the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya , Mr.Saddek Omar Elkaber met Mr.Faez Elsraj , president of the presidential council of the national accord government , vice president , Mr.Ahmed Mateeg ,Mr.Mohamed syalla , commissioned minister of finance, Mr. Mustafa soni allah , chair man of the national oil corporation board , Mr.Ali mahmoud , chair man of the board of directors of the Libyan investment corporation and the discussion went around the ways and mechanisms of providing support to the national oil corporation. All parties that attended the meeting agreed on the need to overcome all difficulties and provide the necessary resources for the national oil corporation to improve its technical situation and increase its production during the coming period.

In coordination with the Ministry of Economy, the Central Bank of Libya approves imports concerning Eid Aladha.

The Central Bank of Libya gave the approval to 54 companies on the 31st of July 2017 according to what was presented by the Ministry of Economy and Industry of the National Accord Government to import the needs of Eid Aladha through documents of collection. The total value of approvals is $100 million(approximately equals 750 thousand sheep). The Central Bank of Libya announces that the Eid sacrifices should be supplied before the 20th of August 2017 thus the Ministry of Economy and Industry can coordinate with suppliers to implement an appropriate mechanism to ensure the arrival of the Eid sacrifices and their distribution with proper prices before Eid Aladha.
